Hand Pollination Workshop

July 27, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free
Join us at the Dream of Wild health farm to learn how to hand pollinate corn and squash in order to save seed!

This will be a workshop led by our Farm Manager, Heather Drake. She will teach why we hand pollinate corn and squash and will demonstrate the process. You will see the process in action and learn how to hand pollinate in your own garden to save seeds!

At the farm, we use hand pollination to protect our corn and squash seeds. Because corn pollen can travel up to 7 miles through the wind, we have to protect our traditional corn varieties from crossing with another corn variety on the farm and on neighboring farms. We use the same process to protect our saved seed squash.

**This is the second event in our Seed Saving workshop series this year. We will host another workshop in September to teach how to process and store seeds. You do not have to attend all workshops to attend this one.

This event is at the DWH farm (16085 Jeffrey Ave N, Hugo, MN 55038). Please park alongside the long driveway as you arrive. This event takes place outside in our fields, so dress accordingly for the weather.
