Ernie Whiteman

Haŋ and Boozhoo,

With heavy hearts, we are writing to let you know that our beloved Ernie Whiteman began his journey to the spirit world on Friday. Please see the statement below from his daughter, Missy, about his life:

“Ernest Marcus Whiteman,Tei’eihi Beh’eih (Strong Old Man) made his journey to the spirit world December 13th, 2019 at 9:15pm.

My father lived one of the most beautiful life journeys one could have had.
He was a man filled with love for everyone he met. His left a beautiful legacy for us to follow and to honor.
Please know that he would want us to continue remembering him in a good way.
Thank you to our family and friends who have helped us during this time, we are so very grateful.
Please say prayers for his journey to the spirit world and for his family.
To the stars Papa.
Ho’hou”

“Ernie had an exceptional ability to build strong relationships with youth through humor and storytelling, and was a positive role model. He had a way of bringing people together. When Ernie spoke, everyone listened. He will be remembered as a gifted artist, cultural teacher, and well-respected elder. Ernie will be forever loved and cherished by all.” – Neely Snyder, DWH Executive Director.

We ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers as he’s brought back home to Wyoming. Dream of Wild Health is planning to hold a celebration of his life and will announce more details soon.

Ernie perfectly captured what we do at Dream of Wild Health when he said we grow seeds and we grow leaders, and he embodied and lived that vision every day. We will continue to carry on his teachings and work in honor of him.

With love,
The Dream of Wild Health Team

I had the pleasure of speaking with Ernie once. He commented on his affinity for my fake snake skin boots, and told me he had a real pair of his own. Speaking with Ernie gave you a sense of purpose. He made you feel accepted, valued, and like you could make a difference. My heart goes out to The Dream of Wild Health team. Rest in paradise Ernie.
